Q: Are there minimum entry requirements?
A: Individual employers will identify relevant entry requirements. Most candidates will typically have GCSE’s (or equivalents) at grades 4 to 9 including English and Maths and possibly a relevant science or engineering based qualification Applicants without the appropriate level in English and mathematics will be considered providing they can demonstrate a genuine interest in engineering heritage and the capability to achieve the appropriate level within the timescale of the apprenticeship.

Q: How do I apply?
A: Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button on the Home Page or a specific apprenticeship vacancy

Q: Am I committing to anything by applying?
A: No, you are just expressing an interest and can withdraw at any time.

Q: When will I know if I have an interview with HSA?
A: You will be contacted within 48 hours to confirm we have received your application. You will be requested to email specific documents to recruitment. Once received, you will be invited for an Initial Assessment.

Q: When will I know if I have an apprenticeship offer?
A: If you pass the initial assessment you will be invited for a one week trial. (the employer will cover your travel and lunch costs). You will then be informed of the employer's decision by the Heritage Skills Academy.

Q: Is the Heritage Skills Academy an official college?
A: Yes, the course is delivered by the Heritage Skills Academy (a registered Training Provider) by qualified tutors, delivering a nationally recognised qualification. HSA is inspected by OFSTED.

Q: Can I go to a different college?
A: No, the Heritage Skills Academy Apprenticeship Programme is delivered in house (where necessary, external specialist training may be scheduled to enhance the course).

Q: Can I apply for a Student Discount Card?
A: Yes, for a cost of £11.00, you are entitled to apply to the NUS (National Union of Students) for an ‘Apprentice Extra’ card. This provides discounts on a variety of essentials from more than 150 high street and online retail partners. Discounts are also available on travel, sport, books and DVD, technology, mobile and broadband, as well as fashion, beauty and going out (for more information visit http://www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra/nus-apprentice-extra-card/)

Q: Do I get college holidays?
A: No, if college is not scheduled you are required to attend work unless you have an authorised holiday.

Q: Do previous qualifications count towards my apprenticeship?
A: Yes, previously achieved qualifications will be considered where appropriate.

Q: Can I re-apply if I am not successful?
A: Yes, but you are not guaranteed an interview.

Q: What will I earn?
A: Heritage Skills Academy will negotiate a competitive starting salary with developmental increases each year throughout the apprenticeship programme with each employer. Employers are encouraged to apply additional hourly increases to reflect performance, commitment and initiative. Our target starting wage is between £150 and £200 per week.

Q: How can I move up the pay grades?
A: Increases will apply at the beginning of each year of your Apprenticeship. In addition, your performance will be assessed regularly and if your progress and commitment stand out you will become eligible for an hourly rate increases.

Q: Am I guaranteed a job after the Apprenticeship?
A: No, your offer of a job is dependent upon the requirements of the business and your performance throughout your apprenticeship. However, those who are not offered jobs will have a CV, qualification and experience that will make them very attractive to other specialist companies within the Restoration Industry. HSA will endeavour to find employment for any apprentice qualifying as a Heritage Engineering Technician.
