Whether you’re restoring a classic car, training as a vehicle technician, or simply want to finally understand what’s going on under the bonnet, this hands-on 2-day automotive electrics course is designed for you.
 
Starting from the basics of how electricity works, you’ll progress to wiring diagrams, relays, ignition, charging systems, and lighting circuits - learning how to test, diagnose, and repair real-world electrical faults confidently.

Day 1 – Foundations and Core Circuits

  • Understanding basic electrical theory – volts, amps, ohms, resistance, current flow
     

  • How to use a multimeter safely and effectively
     

  • Reading and interpreting automotive wiring diagrams and electrical symbols
     

  • Understanding electromagnetic principles – motors, coils, and relays
     

  • Practical work with simple test circuits

Day 2 – Vehicle Systems and Diagnostics

  • How batteries, starter motors, and alternators work (and how to test them)
     

  • The principles of spark ignition systems, timing, and advance mechanisms
     

  • Lighting and signalling systems – from bulbs to relays to LED clusters
     

  • Practical troubleshooting: diagnosing real-world electrical faults
     

  • Safety, polarity, and avoiding common mistakes

  • Sturdy footwear (steel toe caps preferred)

  • If you wear glasses - please bring them along

  • You can buy lunch on site at the cafe or you're welcome to bring your own and use microwave and kettle facilities
